The Antwerp Six was composed of six prodigally fashion designers that studied under the rigorous curriculum of the Royal Academy of Arts in Antwerp, Belgium. Dirk Bikkembergs had completed his studies with very little time before serving with the Royal Belgium Army. Several years had past and Dirk was eager to resume his career in fashion that he had been longing for. His debut collection, under Dirk Bikkembergs-Homme Co, was produced in the year 1985 and took influence from his deconstuctivist piers that challenged traditional western ideals. His first stand-out product under his label were a pair of leather boots made without eyelets to feed the laces through. Alternatively, a hole was drilled into the heel of the boot to enable the strings to be wrapped around the leather and fasten the foot into place. The notion of rethinking the most instinctive design elements is what had qualified him as a worthy member of the Antwerp Six and is what led to successful presentations on the Paris Fashion Week stage in the early 2000’s.

This pair of black leather boots features thin waxed cotton laces that feed through a hole in the steel heel of the boot. A structured toe-box and a rubber sole help to extend the wearable life of these vintage boots.
