Helmut Lang SS1998 Laced Anorak

Spring / Summer 1998 unveiled some of Lang’s most coveted outwear garments to date. From simple work-jackets with MA-1 Cargo sleeves, to a mastery of tailoring in shimmering iridescent fabrics. Faux bulletproof vests made their appearance alongside zippered waist bags, and loose-gauge knitted tops. This 1998 collection also marked the first season to unveiled the historical pair of purposely painted denim jeans. Helmut was in his prime at this point of his career; whether or not it was clear to his viewers and fans at the time, is unknown.

This anorak debuted in both the Menswear and the Ready-to-Wear collections of SS1998, in a translucent clear iteration. The dark green cotton/poly blend makes for a very lightweight layer for the warmer seasons approaching. Ventilation holes have been strategically placed at the pits and on either side of the hoodie (where most heat becomes trapped). Additionally, there are two concealed zipper pockets on either side at the hips and a cinch-waist adjustment pull strings just underneath. The primary feature of this jacket is the corset style lacing feature at the neck that can be adjusted based on user preference. It is based off of a traditional USN 1940’s Anorak Parka that was commonly worn during WWII.
