Issey Miyake SS2008 Weather Map Denim Chore Coat
Issey has always looked toward the future in creating advanced synthetic fabrics and garments limited to one piece of cloth. He studied the human body and how it moves like an engineer would study the earth in which a structure in built upon.
The ‘A Piece of Cloth’ line was launched in 1997 in response to Miyake’s need to eliminate waste in his designs. The fabrics that were already sewn together when they were machine printed. This enabled Issey’s design team to not have to scrap fabrics of a specific pattern once the production run has been completed. Additionally, APOC’s aesthetic purpose was to stress the change in appeal of traditionally three dimensional ornamentation, once made in two dimensions.
This denim outerwear piece is modeled after a classic late-nineteenth century french chore coat. It features a long front button placket and angular pockets that are comfortable for the wearer. The tonal blue weather map graphic is printed overtop.
