Kapital Century ‘Stone’ Sashiko Denim Jeans
After the second World War, soldiers bought and sold levis jeans on the black market. This stream of illegal transactions introduced a lot of Western culture to the East. Kiro and Toshikiyo Harata are a father son duo who have capitalized on this infatuation. Repurposing denim and other garments and selling them out of the denim capital of Japan - Kurashiki. The Japanese Heritage culture and the Harata duo’s obsession with indigo are some of the byproducts that have made the brand, “Kapital” a great success.
The first pair of century denim was born alongside a demand for jeans that could last 100 years. It is a unique concept that uses involves overlaying a blue sashiko stitch ontop of the jeans. The thread is dyed by means of natural indigo in order to add a pop of color to the grey sumi-zone dyed denim. The addition of a cinch on the back of the pants allows for the waist to be adjusted for the user’s desired fit.
