Maison Margiela 10 Printed Cardigan Sweater
Martin Margiela is a mystery to the public eye. He lets his designs speak for themselves as he hides behind a veil of anonymity. This personal tactic projects a stronger message at his runway shows and presentations. In his past collections, Martin has covered the faces of models with crystal masks and wigs affixed backwards. The color white is heavily used in his ateliers and beyond in an effort to show an identity being hidden. All elements exists in incognito. Hiding identity is consistently utilized by the Maison, along with recycling, transforming, and reinterpreting the practical uses for common items and garments. Presenting garments in an unconventional way, seems to be the tried and true Margiela philosophy.
This 2014 cardigan sweater is composed of a thick cotton knit with the exception of a thinner cotton replaced on the front where the 10 graphic is displayed in white paint. Oversized buttons and varsity style armband details are added to match the varsity aesthetic of the sweater.
