Raf Simons AW04-05 “Waves” asymmetrical-zip rider jacket
Raf Simons shook the world with his collection entitled “Waves” in the winter of 2004 / 2005. Scuba-inspired design elements were used to portray a shipwreck theme. On this particular jacket, a tonal plastic zippers has been placed in an asymmetrical fashion for the front closure. Additionally, zippers have been placed on either side of the torso, that reveal pockets when opened, and a single zipper separates the collar of the jacket for quarter-zip functionality. This rider jacket is a classic Raf Simons blueprint that has received “waves” treatment. The decision to use plastic zips on this particular garment, as well as all other garments in the collection, stems from the features of a typical wetsuit. The neoprene fabric of a wetsuit is zipped open and closed with plastic, as opposed to metal, to avoid rusting.
