Raf Simons AW2001 “Riot Riot Riot” Corduroy Trench Overcoat
After taking a necessary hiatus from his label, Raf Simons revitalized his design aesthetic in a post-soviet society. The current political jump from communism to capitalism played a big part in the shift from Raf’s primarily slim silhouettes to oversized shapes and top-half layering. Simons had stated,, “At the flea market in Vienna, I saw youngsters from the Ukraine or Romania, who simply lay layer by layer and thus create their own volumes because of the cold. What else to call this collection of iconoclasts but “Riot Riot Riot.”
This brown overcoat is made from a thick corduroy fabric and lined with a golden metallic poly. Two vertically reinforced welt pockets are at waist height on the exterior of the coat, and two horizontal pockets are concealed within the insides (both of which are still partially sealed). The back of the coat features a lengthy slit to enable ease of movement when worn.
